Stroke Center Data in findERnow

On an annual basis, EMNet compiles publicly available stroke center data about all U.S. emergency rooms, and presents this information in findERnow. Specifically, EMNet compiles lists of stroke centers certified or verified by the Joint Commission, Det Norske Veritas, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program, or local government (state or Washington, D.C.).

In findERnow’s “EMS View,” stroke centers are classified as either advanced stroke centers (with capabilities equivalent to Comprehensive Stroke Centers, Primary Stroke Centers, or Thrombectomy-capable Stroke Centers) or basic stroke centers (with capabilities equivalent to Acute Stroke Ready Hospitals).

EMNet also can provide researchers with the complete list of stroke centers (yes/no), linked with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Provider ID numbers. To request this list, please contact us at emnet@partners.org with a project proposal, including:

  • Your name, title, and contact information
  • Background information on project
  • Your objective/hypothesis
  • Study design, including analytic plan
  • Year(s) of stroke data requested
  • Potential authors (including institution) of the resulting presentation or report
  • Timeline for project

In any resulting presentation or report (including scientific manuscripts), please cite: Boggs KM, Vogel BT, Zachrison KS, Espinola JA, Faridi MK, Cash RE, Sullivan AF, Camargo CA Jr. An inventory of stroke centers in the United States. J Am Coll Emerg Physicians Open 2022;3:e12673. PMID: 35252972

The above data are provided to academic researchers free of charge on reasonable request and after submission of a complete project proposal.
